velleity

September 12, 2013

Word of the day: velleity. It means a mild wish which is not quite strong enough to translate into action; something you’d vaguely like to do but not to such a degree that you’re actually going to do it. Isn’t that a fine, subtle, precise word? My challenge to all my readers is to use it, either in writing or conversation, this week. (It is pronounced vell-ay-ity.)
