The most annoying question in the English language

October 26, 2015

What’s the most annoying question in the English language? I’m fairly sure that it has to be “Are you sure?”. It means, essentially, “You’re wrong” or “I don’t believe you”, posing as an innocent enquiry. It’s rude and undermining. In the past I’ve always dealt with it by replying with a wordplay on my surname: “Of course I’m sure, I’m Robshaw”. Obviously that solution will not work for everyone. Anyway I’ve decided as of now to deal with it by simply not answering, an approach I recommend to all my readers. And let’s all make sure we don’t use it, either.
